Why Helping Your Child to Sleep Well Will Improve Your Relationship

Why Helping Your Child to Sleep Well Will Improve Your Relationship

By : McKenna Linford (MASTER Sleep SQUAD Consultant)

A good night's sleep is crucial for children's well-being, but its impact on parent-child relationships is often underestimated. As a pediatric sleep consultant, I've witnessed how prioritizing healthy sleep habits can improve family dynamics. This happens in multiple ways.

Patience and Calmness

Well-rested kids and parents have more patience and the ability to remain calm, creating a positive atmosphere within the household. Sleep deprivation can increase stress and affect mood, but a good night's sleep equips everyone to handle the challenges of parenthood more effectively. I know first-hand that this is true.

Smooth Bedtime Routine and Confidence

A smooth bedtime routine is the dream for parents right?

When confident that their child will sleep well, parents approach bedtime with assurance, and not anxiety. No more fighting the bedtime routine each night. This newfound confidence in a child’s ability to sleep allows for a positive enjoyable bedtime experience and allows for a stronger parent-child bond during these precious moments.

I want you to love bedtime! Getting ready for bed, reading books and singing songs should be fun for all involved.  That’s the goal.

More Quality Time

The time it takes for children to fall asleep for naps and bedtime can be a significant factor in the overall time available for family activities.

When sleep routines are well-established, and bedtime is a seamless process, parents find themselves with more time in the day to spend with their children and actually enjoy that time.

For example, before working with one of my clients, she said the bedtime routine took 2+ hours each night. Now after their sleep program, it takes 30-40 minutes! That is over 1 hour a day that they have back!

We Are Here to Help!

Beyond ensuring a good night's sleep for children, my hope is that allowing your child to sleep well results in you also being able to sleep well. Getting you the rest you need will help you to be the best parent for your child. We all need good sleep to stay healthy and happy and to truly take care of those around us. I have seen time and time again how greatly impacted relationships are when children learn to sleep well.
